Williams signs college basketball offer in Spain

Durant boys basketball scoring leader Tashaun Williams will have the opportunity to continue his playing career overseas after a solid career for the Lions.

The DHS senior recently inked a scholarship offer from the College for International Studies in Madrid, Spain. In the program, students have the opportunity to work towards their American degree while training and competing in a professional-like environment.

It was an easy decision for Williams, who admitted playing in college was something he had dreamed about for a while.

“It feels great to have this chance to continue playing basketball on the next level,” he said. “It’s something I have thought about since I came into high school. The coach at CIS saw video on me and liked the way I played so he made me an offer. It’s a very nice school and they have a lot of great stuff for the basketball program. They have play- ers from all over the world so there will be a lot of competition. They recruit from just about everywhere. They want me to play with one of their higher division teams so I know it’s going to take a lot of hard work.”

Williams was instrumental in the Lions’ success over the past couple of years, including leading the team with 16.6 points per contest this past season. He shot over 50 percent from the field, including 32 percent from three-point range, while also pulling down a teambest 7.3 rebounds per outing.

The Durant High graduate is expected to major in business.

“Playing at Durant was a lot of fun,” Williams added. “Made a lot of good memories and Coach George really put me to work. That should help me down the line.”
