Participating with Team USA in the 15U World Cup of Baseball, Silo freshman Paxton Scoggin captured a gold medal by helping lead the United States past the Dominican Republic, 5-4, in extra innings on Sunday in Merida, Mexico, for the event title.
The USA squad clinched its spot in the title tilt on Saturday with a 4-1 triumph over Japan and finished the event with an overall record of 8-1 in nine contests.
Scoggin ended the competition with a .320 batting average, including a pair of triples and team-leading nine runs batted in while batting in the three-hole position while starting at shortstop every game for the Americans. He also drew nine free passes and wrapped up with a .471 onbase percentage against the best 15-and-Under competition the world had to offer.
The Silo Rebel stalwart returns to the diamond this weekend as the Rebel starting shortstop and leadoff hitter playing in his first high school state tournament in Oklahoma City.
