Dedicated volunteers wanted for museum

Do you love history? Are you a people person? Would you like an opportunity to serve a 50-year-old cultural institution?

Brianna Reed, director of the Three Valley Museum, located at 401 W. Main St. in Durant, is looking for three dedicated, part-time volunteers to run the facility three days a week. Days needing covered are Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Potential volunteers must have a rudimentary understanding of smartphones and tablets. They must be proficient in sales management, such as running a cash register. Potential volunteers must be able to lift up to 20 pounds (such as when moving artifacts and gift shop merchandise). Applicants must be able to stand for 30 minute to 1-hour intervals (such as when giving tours). Volunteers will be expected to be on time and able to perform light custodial work before and after closing.

Compensation in the form of scholarships or stipends will be determined by the museum advisory board.

Applicants must complete a brief document located on the museum Facebook page. Students and retirees are highly encouraged so as to break up the monotony of school and everyday life.

“Join us in preserving Durant’s past and ensuring its future,” Reed said.
