Congressional candidate Wade to visit Durant

Brandon Wade, Democratic candidate for U.S. representative from Congressional District 2, will speak at two events in Durant on October 1.

At 9:30 that morning, he will meet with interested students and teachers at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

At 5:30 that evening, Wade will speak at Roma Italian Restaurant. The meal is sponsored by Bryan County Federation of Democratic Women and is provided free of charge to all attendees.

All those interested in participating in the free evening meal at Roma should text an RSVP to Charlotte Young at 303-- 229-8980.

Wade has visited Bryan County before and plans to visit all 27 counties in CD2 during his campaign. He says, “I am a candidate who comes from rural Oklahoma [Washington County, near the Kansas border], and I understand rural issues, such as the importance of public schools. We must keep our tax dollars where they belong — our public schools.

“If our public schools fail, our rural communities will go with them.

“I feel for anyone experiencing the rising costs of utilities, working paycheck to paycheck and still not getting by. I will work to hold corporate America and its greed accountable, so that all American workers have a fair, livable wage.”

Wade recently challenged his Republican opponent, Josh Brecheen, who now occupies the CD2 seat, for his hypocrisy on issues. For example, Brecheen states on his website, “We must reduce Washington’s influence in our daily lives.” But, Wade points out, Brecheen also says he “supports a government ban on a woman’s right to choose her own health care” (“Congressional candidate Wade calls out Brecheen,” Durant Weekly Democrat, August 30, 2024).

Wade also noted that Brecheen’s statement on his website calls for stopping “government’s runaway spending,” yet he supported President Donald Trump’s tax cut that added $7.8 trillion to the national debt.

Additionally, candidate Wade said that Brecheen supports Project 2025, which is the far-right-wing Heritage Foundation’s blueprint for turning a new Trump administration into one led by an authoritarian dictator.
