Oklahoma senator, David Bullard (R), Durant, seeks to force public schools to teach creationism along with evolution.
Dear Senator Bullard, please focus on something useful. The evolution controversy has been beaten to death. But, OK. Teachers could explain that a small, adamant minority bases its views on faith rather than evidence and reason. That is all that needs to be said.
Let teachers teach! Evolution fascinates students and constitutes the basis of biological science, including genetics, ecology, and physiology.
Evolution happens every minute all around us, most prolifically in viruses. It cannot be denied.
I recently learned that English teachers must defend using phonet- ics to teach English. This is so wrong! Teachers must be permitted to be effective.
I helped an eighth grader graph a line. The intuitive approach is to solve the line’s equation, but the textbook instructions required counting spaces on the graph along the X and Y axis given the slope of the line, then find a point that solves the equation. Forevermore! Politicians and textbook executives must listen to teachers!
Senator Bullard’s bill is just the latest ploy to undermine professionals, especially teachers and doctors. We say, dear legislators, stay in your lane!
