‘No King’s’ rally to take place in Durant

A “No Kings” rally will be held in Durant on March 28, part of a huge nationwide protest against the current Trump administration.

The day of protest (formally named the No Kings Day of Nonviolent Action) is expected to include more than 3,000 local events throughout the U.S. that day, with millions in attendance nationwide.

The Durant rally will be from 10 am to 2:00 p.m.at the corner of 12th and Main Streets.

The www.nokings.org website gives details on the various local events and allows those planning to attend specific rallies to register for them.

“All across the country, Americans are organizing and showing up to express their opposition to Trump’s abuses of power, as he attempts to rule through fear and force,” said Pat Notley, chair of the local Democratic party and an organizer of the Durant rally.

More than 30 citizens groups are working together to plan events, including Amnesty International, Voto Latino, ACLU, Indivisible, Move On, and Free Speech TV.

The No Kings coalition of groups has been holding “EYES on ICE” training sessions designed to equip rally-goers to exercise their rights without violence.

“It’s important that all our events be non-violent,” Notley noted, “not only for the safety of rallygoers but as an important contrast to actions of the Trump administration.”

“Each day Trump crosses a new red line,” said Ezra Levin, Co-Executive Director of Indivisible, “and more people are deciding they’ve had enough.”
