Upon learning of Robert Mueller’s death, President Trump wrote on his Truth Social site, “Robert Mueller just died. Good. I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people! President DONALD. J. TRUMP” (New York Post, March 21, 2026).
As a retired educator, I feel compelled to mention a few things about President Trump’s style of writing. Before electric typewriters, people would often display strong emotions by striking the keys very hard on their manual typewriters. This made deep impressions on the paper that were hard to miss. With the introduction of electronic typing, capital letters became a popular way for a person to symbolically say, “Listen to me. I’m shouting!”
But those behaviors are generally considered unnecessary in English compositions for someone who possesses sufficient vocabulary skills.
When this country’s war in Vietnam was raging and young men were sent to their possible deaths there, Donald “Cadet Bone Spurs” Trump was enjoying the benefits of a rich father who bought him medical deferments for an imaginary illness.
His bone spurs somehow miraculously disappeared after the Vietnam War and never bothered him again. We know, however, that such calcium growths do not dissolve on their own and can only be removed surgically.
While Trump was living a playboy’s life of luxury, Robert Mueller served in Vietnam as a Marine. His obituary reveals that he earned the Bronze Star with a “V” designation for saving the life of a wounded comrade while under enemy fire. Mueller received two Navy Commendation Medals, a Purple Heart for being shot by the enemy, and the Vietnamese Cross for Gallantry.
Mueller served as Chief of the F.B.I. from 2001 until his retirement in 2013. He was asked to lead the investigation into whether the Russians had interfered in the 2016 elections and did so. Even though Mueller was a registered Republican, his report (that Russians had indeed interfered to help Republicans) angered Trump, who seems to hold grudges and favors retributions for those not in his favor.
This is not normal behavior. Most human beings would see a need to be gracious even to one’s opponent when that opponent dies. But not Trump. He is not a normal human being.
