Silo Schools to have bond proposition

Silo Public Schools is having a bond proposition election on Tuesday, Nov. 18 to fund upgrades to the school.

The bond is in the amount of $21,950,000 to fund construction of a gymnasium, cafeteria, classrooms, a safe room and to build a sewage lagoon waste system that meets Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality requirements.

According to the ballot, the bond also will fund equipping, repairing and remodeling school buildings, plus obtaining furniture, fixtures and equipment to improve school sites.

The bonds would have an interest not to exceed 10 percent per annum to be paid semi-annually and become due within 10 years.

School bond proposition require a 60 percent super majority to pass.

In May, a $52,640,000 Silo Schools bond proposition failed because it only received 50.74 percent in favor of it.

In a letter before the May election, Silo Superintendent Kate McDonald said the growth of the school district in recent years is remarkable.

“Over the years, we have done everything imaginable with our resources to create classrooms,” Mc-Donald said. “We have maximized all additional space and need the community’s help.”

Early voting continues from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13 at the Bryan County Courthouse, 402 W. Evergreen St.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18.
