Last week’s Bryan County softball showdown between Durant and Caddo went the way of the Lady Bruins in the form of a 9-0 shutout that improved the second-ranked team in Class A’s record to 25-5 on the season.
That was one of a couple of rough outings for the Lady Lions as they also dropped an 18-0 verdict to district-leading Tahlequah on the road following a pivotal 8-2 win over Shawnee.
Caddo jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead on a Braylee Malone sacrifice fly following a Lady Lion error.
The hosts tacked on three more two frames later, capitalizing on a pair of DHS defensive miscues on bunts. A Brylee Daniel RBI single accounted for the final run of the inning.
Durant finally got its first base runner against Daniel, who started in the circle for the Lady Bruins, in the fourth stanza when Allee Cooper was hit by a pitch, but she was quickly erased on a double play. Kenzie Trotter notched the first Lady Lion base hit on a one-out single in the fifth but was left stranded.
Caddo jumped back on the scoreboard with three tallies in the bottom of the inning, cashing in Kayden Prince and Kiersyn Powell singles as well as a Gage Vaughn double and Durant error.
The Lady Lions loaded the bases with a walk and singles from Cooper and Dasia Lewis in the sixth but could not get any home. Caddo then put it away on a two-run double from Daniel in the Lady Bruin half of the frame.
Coach Jimmie Wyrick’s squad were held without a hit by the Tahlequah powerhouse, getting one base runner when Korbyn Robinson was hit by a pitch.
Emma Sherrer catapulted the Lady Lions to the Shawnee victory with big efforts at the plate and in the pitching circle. She tossed a complete-game three-hitter and chipped in a double and triple offensively while driving in six of the eight DHS runs.
Anslee Morse finished with two hits, including a triple, and scored three times. Robinson, Trotter and Paisley Greenhaw added one hit apiece.
