The top-ranked Silo Rebels remained unbeaten for the fall baseball season and claimed their fourth tournament championship Saturday night with a perfect run through the Rattan Invitational.
In the finals, the Rebels dispatched the number one team in Class A Rattan, 6-2, to snap the Rams’ 11-game winning streak while extending their perfect mark to 27-0.
Pitching was again the story for the Rebels as Aiden Mc-Curry scattered three hits and one earned run over five innings for the victory while Nolan Northcott notched the save with two frames of scoreless one-hit relief. They combined to strike out 10.
The Rebels scored three times in the third to take the lead for good, spurred by a Northcott two-run homer. He tallied two hits as did Jacob Wright, Cannon Atwood and Brycen Salsbury.
Silo opened the tournament with an 11-0 run rule verdict over Wister with Warner Bradley and Wright combining to fire a three-hit shutout that included seven strikeouts. Ty Hatley blasted a three-run homer and Peyton Scoggin chipped in two hits.
In the semifinals it was an 11-3 Rebel victory against Tupelo with Blane Beauchamp earning the pitching decision with a complete game effort, yielding five hits and fanning nine.
Doc Nuffer contributed three hits, including a pair of doubles, Atwood had a double and single while Scoggin smacked a grand slam home run.
Colbert Baseball
An impressive 2-1 win over powerful Fort Cobb-Broxton wrapped up last week’s action for the Leopards after dropping a pair of narrow decisions against Byng and Amber-Pocasset.
Colbert notched a 6-5 edge in hits against Byng but it wasn’t enough in the 5-3 defeat despite a pair of doubles and two RBI for Eric Hokett.
The Amber-Pocasset contest saw Colbert lead 7-6 in the sixth before the Panthers pushed across two runs in their final at bat to win by an 8-7 count.
Ian Jordan posted two hits and one RBI to lead the way for the Leopards.
Isaiah Lopez was sensational on the mound for Colbert in the Fort Cobb triumph as he twirled six and two-third innings and yielded only one hit with five strikeouts and six walks. Jordan came in and recorded the final out.
The Leopards then walked it off in the bottom of the seventh as Hudson Bridgman opened with a walk, Parker Ladd reached on an error and Blake Wiginton followed with the game-winning single.
Rock Creek Baseball
The Mustangs erupted for seven runs in the final inning and then held off Boswell for a wild 14-10 victory last week.
It was back-and-forth throughout the contest until the massive seven-run outburst that included singles from Cyden Stevens, Blaine Stanford, Holden Pair, Jarret Barfield and Jaxon Whitaker as well as a Brylan Watts double that plated three runs.
After Boswell countered with four runs in the bottom of the seventh, Pair came on in relief and struck out three straight for the save.
Watts, Barfield, Whitaker, Stevens, Stanford and Pair all had two hits for Rock Creek. Whitaker drove in four and Watts added three RBI.
