District champ Rebels claim top league honors

District champ Silo took home top individual honors as well as six other all-league selections in a vote of District 3A-5 baseball honors after finishing league play undefeated.

The Rebels, who won regional and super regional titles as well en route to their 24th consecutive spring state tournament, finished the season with a 31-7 record.

Senior shortstop Zane Sander was the coaches’ choice for Player of the Year after completing the season with a .411 batting average, .507 on-base percentage, two doubles, two triples and three homers. The Cowley County College signee also tallied 24 runs batted in, team-leading 47 runs scored and eight stolen bases.

Pitcher of the Year honors went to junior Aiden McCarty, who despite missing more than a month of mound action with an injury still recorded a 7-0 mound record this spring. In 26 1/3 innings he scattered 26 hits, allowed only two runs, struck out 19 and walked eight while notching a 0.53 earned run average.

The Rebels’ entire infield was All-District choices with Cannon Atwood at first base, Warner Bradley at second, Nolan Northcott at third and Ty Hatley at catcher. Jacob Wright was All-District in centerfield and Blane Beauchamp was all-league as a pitcher.

Atwood compiled a .427 batting average in his sophomore campaign that included 15 doubles, one triple, one homer and 31 RBI. Bradley led the team with a .436 mark at the plate, adding 13 doubles, a pair of triples and teamhigh 43 runs batted in.

Northcott was a defensive staple at third base and wrapped up with a .378 batting average, tallying nine doubles, 33 RBI and teambest six home runs. Hatley steadily improved behind the plate to wind up with a .345 offensive mark and sensational .512 on-base percentage for a catcher. He wrapped up with six doubles, two triples, 35 RBI and led the club with 23 walks and 12 hit by pitches.

Wright meanwhile batted .427 along with six doubles, two home runs along with 16 driven in and team-high 10 stolen bases. On the mound, Beauchamp finished with a 6-1 record in 37 1/3 innings, scattering 32 hits and 45 strikeouts with a 2.25 ERA.

Sander was an All-State and Class 3A All Star selection, McCarty, Northcott and Beauchamp were picked to play in the Oklahoma State Games this summer and the sophomore trio of Atwood, Bradley and Wright were chosen for the Sophomore Games as well.
