Area roundup: Silo romps to Tupelo tourney title

Outscoring three foes by a whopping 51-9 margin, the Silo Rebels remained unbeaten on the season last week with a romp to the Tupelo Tournament championship. Coach Eddie Jeffcoat’s club smacked Moss, 14-4, in round one and then blasted Latta in a 19-4 run rule in the semifinals.

For the first time this fall the Durant Lions will face outside competition on the gridiron coming up Friday night as they play host to Pauls Valley in their lone preseason scrimmage at Paul Laird Field.

University of Texas commit Jaycie Nichols had a huge outing as Caddo jumped to a big lead and never looked back for a 14-3 victory over Calera in an early Bryan County fastpitch showdown last week.

Silo softball and baseball teams each got off to strong starts while toting early unbeaten records. The Lady Rebels blasted district foes Hugo and Valliant before edging Idabel on the way to a 6-0 start to the season.
