After more than a month of action on the road, the Southeastern basketball teams return home this week with vital Great American Conference games. Southeastern was slated to host Southern Arkansas on Thursday and then Arkansas-Monticello Saturday afternoon.

Both the Durant girls and boys each took home hardware from the inaugural McAlester Invitational basketball tournament last week before returning to district action this week. The Lady Lions bounced back from an opening round defeat for two wins, throttling Southeast (5119) before rallying to surprise Class 6A Muskogee, 39-38, for the consolation title.

Facing a rugged slate of games in the prestigious Mustang Holiday Classic last week, defending state champ Caddo found the going tough against a pair of large school contenders before dropping a last second loss to Class A challenger Seiling in the tournament final game.

A pair of Durant Lady Lion wrestlers continued their early season success in claiming individual championships in the inaugural Ardmore Holiday Invitational last week. Senior Addison Polk led the charge for the Lady Lions, sweeping through the round robin bracket in the 105-pound weight division.

Despite being a multi-year standout for the Durant Lady Lions, Sawyer Strange sailed a bit under college radars while putting up solid numbers. Strange helped push the Lady Lions to the Class 5A State Tournament each of her seasons in garnering All-District recognition, and in the process drew the attention of new Northeast Texas Community College coach Haley Colwell.

Division I football signees have been few and far between for the Durant gridiron program, but the Lions managed to pick up their first in more than a decade over the Christmas break as Xadavien Sims inked his scholarship offer from the University of Oregon.

Coming off rough performances on the road, the Silo Rebels returned home last week with solid outings against Class 3A heavyweight Bethel, splitting a pair of games. The Lady Rebels pushed the seventh-rated visitors before falling 40-30 while the Rebels made a late charge to forge a 5348 victory to close out the pre-Christmas schedule.
