Durant residents to vote on extending sales taxes to be used for infrastructure

Durant residents will be voting on Feb. 13 to extend a half-cent sales tax passed in 2004 to fund the Multi-Sports Complex and benefit Southeastern to change so it funds infrastructure in the city.

Lee Early Childhood Center teacher Shaunda Usry during a surprise visit last month to her classroom to announce she had been named Durant Teacher of the Year for 2023-2024. In a Monday meeting of the Durant Board of Education, Merideth announced he is retiring e ctive July 1. He has served 40 years in education with 31 of those years being in Durant.

Durant School District Superintendent Duane Merideth announced his retirement during a meeting Monday of the Durant Board of Education. Merideth’s retirement is effective July 1, which is the end of his contract for the 2023-2024 school year.

Southeastern eSports spring season to start on February 5

The Southeastern Oklahoma State University eSports team – SEsports - will begin its spring season in early February, competing in four different games in the semester. This is the third academic year the SEsports team will take on other universities and colleges in competition.

Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma law enforcement officers were honored for actions above and beyond the call of duty in 2023 during a ceremony last month. Officer Christian Minyen was able to clear airway obstruction on an infant.
