Lady Lion senior Avery Sager continued her dominance Saturday, winning the Class 5A Pre-State cross country meet at Edmond Santa Fe in convincing fashion.
Sager cruised to a winning time of 19 minutes, 34.65 seconds on the 5K course to outdistance the nearest competitor by more than 25 seconds.
That was just one of several tremendous efforts for Durant that included a plethora of personal best times. The Lady Lion varsity team was fifth, Lions took fourth in the varsity field with the JV girls running to the team title and the JV boys ending third.
Durant travels to Guthrie for the 5A Invitational coming up this Saturday.
Just behind Sager on the girls’ side was Elizabeth Hitchcock, who medaled in 13th at 21:54.45, while Grace Morrison also medaled by taking 23rd in a personal best mark of 22:46.73. Katelyn Hitchcock chipped in a 24:14.77 for 46th, Caitlyn Ortega ended 47th with a personal best 24:27.05 as Judi Free rounded things out in 66th at 26:20.94.
The Lion varsity boys also notched three medalists which included Zach Ervin in 12th with a time of 17:38.52, Hudson Phillips placed 15th in 17:56.06 and Jared Osorio ran a personal best 18:13.97 to finish 21st.
Adding to the Durant fourth place team effort were personal best marks from Isaiah Hall (19:01.77) to place 37th, Kason Ford (19:22.42) in 44th, Blake Rhynes (19:37.27) for 49th and Hudson Lee (19:58.80) to end 57th.
Durant’s Junior Varsity girls put on a terrific showing by winning their division by capturing the top four individual finishes as well as a seventh.
Laynee Emert ran to the title in 24:47.94 as teammate Kyah French was 10 seconds behind in second at 24:57.14. Rozlyn Brumley checked in third with a personal best 26:04.84, Selena Osorio took fourth with a personal best mark of 27:03 and Ellery George concluded in seventh with another personal top mark of 28:33.39.
It was also personal best times for virtually all the Lion JV boys unit with five medaling in the Top 30. Rylan Marsh took honors in 14th with a time of 21:29.33, Noah Brumley was 18th in 22:11.94, Logan Wyrick checked in 21st at 22:40.37, D.J. Donaldson placed 25th crossing the stripe in 22:50.52 and Kolson Gordon finished 30th at 23:31.49. Also for the Lions, Remi Varner tallied a 61st place mark of 27:32.48 with Cole Parker adding a 64th in 28:76.
