Lady Lions outlast McAlester in district opener

Five runs in their final two at bats helped the Durant Lady Lions build a lead and they held on for a 9-8 win over McAlester in the lone home softball game during a busy opening week.

Durant’s cross country teams opened the 2025 season impressively with solid showings in the Wright City Invitational led by standout Avery Sager picking up right where she left off a year ago with a dominant performance.

Defending fall state champ Silo got off to another good start in the 2025 campaign last week with three victories, including a 4-0 whitewashing of two-time Class A state titlist Wright City. The Rebels also blitzed Battiest, 12-2, and then held off Stuart by a 6-4 count.
