Savage Storm hosts OBU looking for first win

After finding the road unfriendly last week in a loss at Henderson State, the Southeastern Savage Storm football team returns home Saturday night against in-state rival Oklahoma Baptist. Both the Savage Storm and Bison will be in search of their first victory of the year in that 6 p.m.

Lady Lions close tourney with two victories

The Durant Lady Lions opened last week with a victory and closed with two wins culminate a 3-3 week in softball action. In the opener, the Lady Lions smacked McAlester, 14-2, and then downed Comanche, 9-5, before doubling up Idabel by a 6-3 count.

Strong performances highlighted another quality effort by the Durant High School cross country teams at the Ennis, Texas Invitational Meet last weekend. The Lady Lions placed third in the team standings only behind team large school powers Rockwall and Kaufman.

A rugged slate of foes didn’t bode for much success for the Durant High softball team as they dropped all four games in the Bixby Tournament last weekend. The Lady Lions finally return home this week with their annual Durant Invitational at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex starting on Thursday.

Durant’s varsity girls cross country team continued to make strong early season strides with a fourth-place team finish in the prestigious Moore Invitational last weekend. The Lady Lions only finished behind one Class 5A squad along with a pair from Class 6A in the team standings.

Lady Bruins win Tushka tourney title

Caddo cruised to the Tushka softball tournament championship with five dominant wins, only one of which wasn’t a run rule. The top-ranked Lady Bruins blasted Durant JV, 120, and Idabel, 14-0, to open the tournament and then romped through an impressive Saturday finale with a trio of wins.
